ACTIS Computer exhibited on the booth of ECRIN Systems, his french distributor, during the "RTS Embedded Systems 2005"
from April 5th to 7th in Paris.

ACTIS Computer introduce a new concept in Embedded Single Board Computer : the KSBC-0405 PowerPC Kit !

With integration level of IC’s offering the possibility to pack a complete Computer on very small PCB form factor we have seen the creation of many new proprietary form factor targeting the replacement of the venerable old PC-104 Mezzanine concept, like ETX, E2Brain, DIMM-PC,
EPIC, X-Board, etc… (many of them invented by Kontron).

These Computer On Module (COM) or System On Module (SOM) are designed to help the final user to build his own system without the burden of designing the CPU part of the project but to focus on the application specific carrier. This is a smart approach, however most of these new products use very high density connectors which make the carrier board PCB very difficult to design and these COM or SOM not usable in prototyping environment !

This is the reason which motivated ACTIS Computer Engineers to bring to the market a new fresh Concept based on a compact (but not too much) 32-bit PowerPC SBC, the KSBC-0405, with all the most common interfaces, memory equipment, and a peripheral extension bus available through a very popular flat cable connection for easy integration with specific User’s I/O Boards or even wire-wraps prototype boards.

The KSBC-0405 includes a AMCC/IBM PowerPC 405GPr@266MHz with only 1W of power dissipation, 64 MBytes of SDRAM, 8 MBytes Flash, 64 kBytes SRAM with Battery Backup, a compactFlash socket, a Fast Ethernet port, a RS-232 serial port, a 32bit/66MHz extension on a HE10 connector.

To make this new Kit even price attractive, it can be purchased with a complete embedded LINUX software package including a BSP and a cross development environment which can run on a simple PC.

The KSBC-0405 PowerPC SBC-Kit is available from ACTIS Computer at price from € 500 (single quantity) and the Kit including LINUX by ECRIN development tools is available for € 995.

ACTIS Computer introduces an XGA graphic controller PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC).

The PVGA-1722 Graphic controller is designed for embedded application requiring a GUI (Graphical User Interface). The PVGA-1722 is a PMC module providing a complete solution for XGA resolution application.

The graphic controller supports 8 MByte of memory and use a 200 MHz RAMDAC, with a resolution up to 1280x1024.

The 128-bit engine supports 2D and 3D acceleration through APIs.

The PVGA-1722 provides a flexible I/O interface usable for a wide range of display equipments.

The PVGA-1722 supports four different type of video interface :

- analog RGB interface on the front panel and on rear I/O connector (optional), for CRT applications.

- S-Video output on the front panel and on rear I/O connector (optional), for public information on TV monitor, Plasma display, etc…

- 24-bit LVDS interface on rear I/O and internally to connect TFT monitors. The LVDS interface provides an excellent SNR when used on remote display in industrial applications.

- native 18-bit LCD interface on internal and rear I/O (optional) connectors, for a direct connection to LCD module without requiring additional converters.

The PVGA-1722 is based on PCI 2.1 interface with a 32-bit @ 33/66 MHz bus, and supports 3.3V PCI environment.

The PVGA-1722 has a full RTOS support including LINUX, VxWorks, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windwos CE.
