ACTIS Computer brings a new Price / Performance ratio in VME PowerPC Single Board Computer with his VSBC-6847 !
With the introduction of its new VSBC-6847 VME Single Board Computer at Embedded World 2005, ACTIS Computer establish a new standard of quality and performance for a price of only € 1’000.-- (100 up). With a third generation low dissipation MPC-8247 PowerQUICC II™ processor running at 400 MHz with only 1.5 Watt and offering performance of 760 DMIPS (Dhrystone 2.1), this new VME board will be the perfect replacement solution for all older VME boards designed around 68k and PowerPC 603/604 processors now in End of Life from MOTOROLA Computer Group. The VSBC-6847 includes all most required features like SODIMM 64-bit SDRAM up to 512 Mbytes, on board 16 Mbytes Flash, 1 Mbytes SRAM, and a CompactFlash socket for rugged on board storage. If more storage is needed, an optional Dual Serial-ATA controller will give access to large volume storage drives. For communication, the VSBC-6847 includes two Fast Ethernet Ports, two HDLC ports with ESD protected software programmable RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 interfaces, one USB port and one RS-232 Console port. Additional functionalities are available through the two PMC extension slots for 32-bit PMC’s, and eight general purpose TTL I/Os. One non volatile 256 kbit EEPROM is available for user parameters. The board is compatible with the VME specification rev. C and require only 5V power supply, with less than 1.5 A of current (Typical power dissipation is only 6 Watt without PMC’s & CompactFlash. The VSBC-6847 supports a complete VME-32 interface for master and slave accesses with bus arbiter, interrupt handler and DMA controller functions. For software support the board is shipped with ECMON monitor and BSP’s are available for LINUX and VxWorks RTOS from our partner ECRIN Systems. The

After the original PowerQUICC™ II 8260 at 200 MHz in 2001, and the improved 8270 at 450 MHz last year, ACTIS engineers are proud to announce their first PowerQUICC™ III VME Single Board Computer designed with a MPC-8560 processor running at 833 MHz and offering performance of 1’926 DMIPS (Dhrystone 2.1). This new VME board is compliant with the VME rev. C legacy standard, doesn’t require the new VME bus extension (5 row connectors, P0, 3.3V supply) and is therefore FULLY compatible with all existing VME backplanes. The VSBX-6560 is the perfect replacement solution for all existing VME CPU boards from Motorola which are now in EOL because of the RoHs specifications. In addition, the VSBX-6560 is a perfect extension to our VSBC-6872 with twice the performances, two Gigabit Ethernet and one Fast Ethernet ports (instead of 3 Fast Ethernet ports), Fast DDR RAM, while remaining fully compatible for software applications and front panel connectors. The VSBX-6560 supports up to 1 Gbyte of DDR RAM, 32 Mbytes of Flash, 1 Mbyte of SRAM, and a CompactFlash socket. For I/O, in addition to the 3 Ethernet ports already listed, the VSBX-6560 supports two S-ATA ports, the 4 HDLC ports common to all PowerQUICC boards, and 2 UART ports for monitoring. The VSBX-6560 VME SBC is available now from ACTIS Computer at a unit price of US$ 3’050.-, € 2’335.- or CHF 3’500.- (price may fluctuate depending on exchange rates). Software support for the VSBX-6560 includes LINUX by ECRIN BSP and VxWorks BSP. A lower cost version based on 8540 PowerQUICC™ III (without HDLC ports) running at 667 MHz, the VSBX-6540 can be supplied on request.
